Important Update to Flip | PCS Digital Resources

In your Influencer Camp materials, instructions are provided for using the Flip video editing platform from Microsoft. As of July 1, 2024 Microsoft has transitioned Flip from a free, browser-based application, to one that is available only in the Microsoft Teams environment within Office 365 for Education. More information about this transition can be found at help.flip.com.

We are hard at work creating an updated version of this curriculum, which we will distribute to you as soon as possible, but in the meantime we wanted to provide you with information on how you can adapt, given the changes implemented by Microsoft. Three options are presented below:

Option 1: If your site already uses Office 365 for Education

Flip can now be accessed within Microsoft Teams. The process will be slightly different than what is outlined in your Influencer Camp Instructor Guide, in that you will first need to create a Class Team, as well as create assignments for learners to submit their Flip videos.

Option 2: If you are at an accredited academic institution, but don’t currently use Office 365 for Education

Microsoft offers free access to Teams for Education to accredited academic institutions. To sign up, follow the steps below, then you will be able to access Flip as described in Option 1.

Visit Microsoft Teams for Education
Click “Sign up for Free,” and enter your school email address to get your free version of Microsoft Teams for Education.
Launch Teams for Education, and set up your class.

Option 3: If you do NOT have access to Office 365 for Education and are NOT an accredited academic institution

Canva is an online design and visual communication platform that offers a Free Online Video Editor.

Canva’s video editing platform is highly user-friendly and offers much of the same functionalities as Flip, as well as integrations with many popular Learning Management Systems. They also offer a robust library of tutorials specific to video editing.
